I have never done drama therapy or creative art therapy before, is this right for me?Yes it is, I am trained to provide services that go at your pace. Together we establish safe protocols to ensure your comfort and we only do activities that you feel you want to experience. Additionally, I can and often provide sessions that are entirely verbal using motivational interviewing, so if drama therapy is not for you, that's okay. Your comfort is the highest priority I have.

I am interested in learning more about mindfulness, do I have to do therapy if I just want to learn how to meditate better? If you want, we can help you foster a mindfulness meditation practice that doesn't include any mental health concerns you may have, or, you can customize our approach and we can do a hybrid format (half the session is meditation practice and the other half is therapy). What we do together with the time you have selected is your time however you would like to spend it.

What is Motivational Interviewing?Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based approach of mental health counselling that can provide results regarding life-changes and taking responsibility for one's own actions. It is highly effective for issues of substance abuse, relational violence, and evidence shows that MI is also highly effective for men and in working in men's issues.

What is Mindfulness?Mindfulness is a meditation practice that helps the practitioner find relaxation, calm, clear-mindedness, and self-acceptance. Through paying attention moment-to-moment on something happening in the present, mindfulness meditation allows clients to feel aware of what's happening right now and to develop a sense of acceptance for whatever is happening in the present moment. Meditation techniques can include for example, things like noticing the breath, the sounds in the room, or the feeling of the body, just to name a few.

What is Drama Therapy?Drama Therapy involves the use of props, masks, costumes, music, writing/reading, performance, improvisation, and scene work. Drama Therapy uses the core processes of dramatic play, role-play, embodiments, narrative work, storytelling, symbolism and metaphor. Drama Therapy can involve the use of role-play to reach a cathartic release of emotions and process complex feelings and relationships, reframe narratives, and gain perspective and insight.

Why combine Drama Therapy, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing? Not everyone is the same! Each and every person requires a different approach and my goal as your therapist is to use whatever tools I have at my disposal to help you feel understood and to give you a voice.
